New ways to fight diseases associated with aging

"The goal here is to give everyone access to the power of data-driven health intelligence - combining state-of-the-art DNA sequencing and non-invasive scanning with expert analysis and machine learning to develop new ways to fight diseases associated with aging. Human Longevity’s research could transform the medical, pharmaceutical, and health insurance status quo."

Bob Duggan

Overview

Human Longevity is a San Diego-based venture launched to build the world’s most comprehensive database on human genotypes and phenotypes, and then subject it to machine learning to help develop new ways to fight diseases associated with aging.

The ultimate goal is to give everyone access to the power of data-driven health intelligence. The program combines state-of-the-art DNA sequencing and expert analysis with machine learning to help change medicine to more data-driven science. With a multidisciplinary team of research scientists, computing experts, and physicians, it is empowering every part of the healthcare system to work more efficiently.

Human Longevity is building the Health Nucleus, which integrates full-body imaging with whole-genome sequencing. The Health Nucleus CORE is the first personalized assessment to reveal a more complete picture of an individual’s past, present, and future health status. This will enable healthcare to move to prevention as a viable option, rather than continuing the long-entrenched tradition of “fixing” people after they have already developed maladies or life-threatening diseases.

Technology

Human Longevity, Inc. (HLI) is revolutionizing human health by generating more data and a deeper understanding of what can keep you living healthier longer. HLI’s scientists have created the world’s largest database of sequenced genomes and phenotypic (physical traits) data to uncover unprecedented insights capable of transforming healthcare from reactive to proactive.

Health Nucleus’ (Human Longevity’s advanced clinical platform) proprietary imaging protocols, combined with the most powerful equipment, create a new industry standard for full-body MRI – all without radiation or contrast agents. Proprietary protocols and software provide high-resolution, non-contrast, radiation-free images from the brain through the pelvis in less than an hour. The precise, detailed images enable radiologists to uncover findings that could be missed by standard protocols. This data is then integrated with whole-genome sequencing with artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML).

A Health Nucleus assessment produces more than 150 gigabytes of data, compared to the average 80 megabytes a patient typically generates each year. The ability for a human to integrate and access that vast amount of data is simply impossible, but AI allows hidden correlations to be uncovered. The AI developed at Health Nucleus pulls from a proprietary database of imaging, metabolic, and genomic data to identify disease automatically. Neural networks derive quantitative biomarkers to monitor health status and risk, particularly for the top chronic age-related types of diseases: cancer, cardiovascular, neurologic, and metabolic.
